Long bio, ten lines
Pawan Kumar is a faculty member at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, where he leads the OPTIMAL group. He received his PhD from Université Paris-Saclay, France, and subsequently held postdoctoral positions at KU Leuven in Belgium, Fraunhofer ITWM in Kaiserslautern, and Freie Universität Berlin.
His research interests are in optimization and machine learning, with a particular focus on the design and analysis of provably fast and robust algorithms. Much of that work sits at the interface of scientific computing and machine learning, where numerical insight and careful algorithm design are brought together to make large scale learning methods faster and more reliable. His research has appeared at leading venues in both communities, including NeurIPS, AAMAS and EMNLP, and in journals such as the SIAM Journal on Optimization.
He has guided more than thirty thesis students. He has taught at IIIT Hyderabad for more than eight years, offering courses in optimization, machine learning and scientific computing. Alongside his teaching he creates open educational content, including lecture material published on YouTube. He also writes long form course notes in mathematics and computation that are published freely online. For more, please visit aiwranglers.org/pawankumar.
